How We Approach MVP Planning

Start with the decision you need to make, then choose the smallest product that can help you make it.

Name the uncertainty

An MVP is most useful when the team knows what it is trying to learn. Is the problem important enough? Does the proposed workflow make sense? Can an organization operate the service behind the interface? Write down the uncertainty before turning it into a backlog.

Follow one complete journey

A small product should still let someone complete a meaningful task. Choose that journey and identify what must work from beginning to end. Supporting operations, error handling, and help may matter more than a second dashboard or another account setting. Scope is a choice about learning, not simply a count of screens.

Decide what comes next

Before a release, define how the team will interpret feedback and choose the next step. Some signals may justify expanding the product; others may suggest simplifying it or changing direction. A useful planning conversation connects each feature to a question and each question to a decision.
