Business / LASTASOFT PERSPECTIVES

When Does a Business Actually Need a Mobile App?

A better starting point than “we need an app”: what should become easier for the customer?

Start with why.
BUSINESS & DIGITAL STRATEGY ↗

Start with the task

A mobile app is a channel, not the business outcome itself. Start with what someone needs to do and how often they need to do it. Finding opening hours is different from managing a recurring order, practicing a lesson, or following a delivery. The frequency and context of the task should shape the conversation.

Consider the whole commitment

A useful product needs more than a first release. Someone must keep its content accurate, support its users, and decide what to improve. Before selecting a channel, ask who will own that ongoing work. A simpler experience that the team can maintain may serve customers better than a larger one that becomes neglected.

Make the choice around the user

Explore whether a website, an improved existing workflow, or a dedicated app best fits the task. Write down the specific advantage an app would offer and how you would know that advantage mattered. That gives the team a clearer basis for choosing what to build.
